Born in 1932 in Margate. Dinsdale Landen was known for his many television appearances, he was a gifted comedic actor with a light touch, but also excelled as rogues and philanderers. Alan Strachan called him “a true farceur” ,. He was Devenish, in the series of that name, his character the ideas man at a games factory, dangerously puffed-up with self-importance, which Landen described as “ demented sultana in a Christmas cake”
Dinsdale had worked his way through fortnightly rep, the classical training ground of English actors of his generation, playing everything from Ben Travers to Agatha Christie to Shakespeare. His West End debut was in 1957, and he worked continuously in major productions in the theatre after that. He memorably created roles in the plays of Michael Frayn and Tom Stoppard.
He died of pneumonia after being in remission from cancer in 2003.
